Photo Blog 7

A holiday special!

Seeing as the sun’s out and I’m looking forward to summer :) especially going away to new places :D

One theme that has ran through my last couple of photo blogs- and it’s probably been discussed before that- is photo walks; going out specifically to take photographs or taking your camera with you wherever you go, just in case. It’s even better when you’re going somewhere new- I’ve always taken this as an opportunity to document, and it’s exciting :) different culture, unknown streets, new food.

My last holiday was to Berlin in 2011. But as well as the holiday pics there was a lot of historic aspects of the city to capture, all on 35mm film. It turned out to be a photo holiday with the amount of photo walks :P this year I’m hoping to have a mixture of galleries, hills and beaches :D

One of my favourite days of this holiday was when we went to the Bauhaus museum :) researching this movement back at GCSE stage was one of the main things that inspired my photography and made me want to continue creating, so going to visit a museum dedicated to it inspired me all over again. I often find that when going somewhere new- everything gets refreshed with a change of scenery: that’s partly why I’m looking into mini-breaks this year; more new places :P

That’s also what I love about photo walks- you don’t know what’s going to influence you. Even the place; there’s nothing stopping you from going back at various times- at sunset, in autumn or in the rain.

Two more photo blogs lined up- themed this time; urban exploration and surroundings.

As promised…

A catch-up blog! Even though it’s at least two weeks late :P whoops. Where to start.. erm.. I’ll jump straight in with the photo walks :) well the trips really; off to the beach for one day and the next a cycle day with the family as they came to Lincoln for their holiday get away, great opportunities for me to get my camera back out. Here are a couple of my favourite pics and the rest you can find here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeaninemarteau/sets/72157631069853786/

This image in particular is a favourite mainly due to the three people in the background stood  in a line, it even looks like they’re stood evenly apart from here! They reminded me so much of the Antony Gormley’s “Another Place” sculptures on Crosby beach. Which reminds me of my art course at college :) which makes me want to paint…

These are from the cycle day at Hartsholme park, a place I’d been to many times before but on this day found a lot of new paths and fields. Again, you can find the rest here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.333297466762828.78180.135788263180417&type=3

Aaaand here’s a sunflower :P we had soo many people stood outside just admiring and taking their own pictures of it because they’re so tall and the flowers itself is so wide. We initially planted it to stop people looking into our front room but now I feel we’ve actaully attracted more people to look :P

I think I have one more blog to go.. I’ll quickly get it up now as I’m feeling the strain to get everything done before I have to go to work, even though my typing today has been atrocious- so many spelling errors and image analysis is a bit lame :/ think that’s just a sign to type more often!

Update

Hello blog!

I feel guilty for not updating as often as I should and for not keeping up with the photo-blogs, my focus project blogs have even taken a dip, let alone my personal blog! Need to get back into the swing of things, work can no longer be an excuse. Of course my top priority is getting my ideas planned and shot, I just need to get organised and not be addicted to tumblr any more..

I’ve been keeping busy visiting galleries and exhibitions (really want to go to the bauhaus one down in London this summer), I’ve got another wedding on the cards, jewelry to make, paintings to paint, gardening to.. garden, and lots of film to shoot :) all damaged atm; one has been in a radiator for six months :P hehe, one lives in the freezer for now, one is 7 years old and the last will be double-exposed.

Other than that, the odd day out and cycling to new places, and if you’ve seen my blog at all you’ll know I tend to take my camera for a walk now and then, here’s a couple from my most recent stroll:

Finally, I feel the need to make another scrap book. I’ve also promised myself to GET SHOOTING with everything I want to do and to get back on top of blogs. Then hopefully, there will be another exhibition of my new work later on this year :) that is my aim! I will do it! Let’s go!!

Bonjour blog :)

Last time I mentioned another photo walk I took and here are the results:

I’ve planned to take another night time one after it’s rained, trying to squeeze it in around work and everything else I want to do: cycle more, test shoots, write, draw,  have days out etc and more recently there’s the jazz festival and beer festival hehe.

However I did get some film developed :) these are from work and I’ll post the rest from the other rolls this evening:

Walks

Hello and welcome to my website! It’s pretty much all set up now bar from a few minor bits so I’m filling it up with a couple of blogs :)
Having a few blogs on the go at the moment I was unsure what to write about for my website, I want to keep it just about my work and projects but I’ll probably throw in some of my other blog posts every now and then too, by other blogs I mean the writings I publish at The Focus Projects where I discuss art practitioner’s work, sometimes my own ideas and influences then I have my own personal blog which ranges from mini rants to my inspirations to documenting memories etc so I’ll be keeping it professional here :P probably posting up the odd inspiration, review and idea blogs. But instead of going back and talking about past work that is currently on this website (you can read about my work on the photography pages), I’ll be blogging about work I’m doing now and what I hope to accomplish in the future.

I’ll start from the most recent photo shoot which was a night time photo walk. On digital- I’m waiting for my next pay cheque to get some rolls of film developed so that will be a blog some point this month! This walk happened because I was itching to get out- I’ve recently moved house so bar from the odd walk into town and cycle this was more of a creative outlet to get me away from boxes and to-do lists and so I had used my camera before I started work back at my old job.
They’re not great, but it was a relief for me to have my camera out again after packing then unpacking etc and I was focusing more on the colours in the sky than anything:

Shortly after this and before I went back to work, we went out for a cycle to a park I’ve been to a few times before but this time exploring a different part of it. The weather had been glorious all week and again, I was itching to get out of the house and away from my to-do list, perfect conditions to take my new nikon for a spin:

Again, they’re not exactly my professional work, it was more of an egress and these were things that caught my eye, I even had an experiment in editing which I don’t often do anymore. Well, I’m planning on taking many more walks and cycles so there may be a few more blogs like this, I’m interested in seeing a progression/ improvement in my images and technique though.
